Even though they are smaller than lions and leopards, hyenas are apex predators. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why are hyenas apex predators?

The reason why is that they are strong, smart and fast. They also have a bite force of 1,100 PSI.

2. Hyenas are not dogs.

Even though they look like dogs, hyenas are not dogs. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why are hyenas not dogs?

The reason is because they belong to a family of their own called Hyaenidae. So they are actually related to themselves!

3. Hyenas eat their prey alive!

Even though they are scavengers, hyenas eat their prey alive. Isn’t that overwhelming?

Now, why do hyenas eat their prey alive?

The reason is that they don’t want other scavengers like lions to steal thier food.

Even though they are thought of to laugh, not all subspecies of hyenas laugh. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why don’t all subspecies of hyenas laugh?

The reason why is because of the sounds they are meant to make. Only one subspecies laughs while the others sound a lot like pet dogs.

5. Hyenas live in aardvark burrows.

Even though they hunt on the ground, hyenas live in aardvark burrows. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why do hyenas live in aardvark burrows?

The reason is that this provides safety for all the babies and adults in the clan from competors like lions or leopards.
