Even though many animals are fast, cheetahs reach a speed of 60 miles per hour. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why can pronghorns reach a speed of 60 miles per hour?

The reason why cheetahs can reach a speed of 60 miles per hour is because of their light bodyweight and powerful legs and also the bone that is supposed to be in their feet are actually in their legs and this gives them stamina to run longer than most predators. Another thing that gives them stamina is that they have special heat replacers which cool thier blood so they don’t overheat.

2. The pronghorn’s closest relative is the giraffe!

Did you know the pronghorn antelope’s closest relative is the giraffe?

Even though their name means “American antelope goat”, the pronghorn antelope’s closest relative is the giraffe. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why is the pronghorn antelope’s closest relative is the giraffe?

The reason is that the giraffe and pronghorn belong to the fanily Giraffoidea. Which means they are not even antelopes.

3. Pronghorns are nocturnal!

Even though some animals are diurnal (active in the day), pronghorns are nocturnal. Isn’t that overwhelming?

Now, why are pronghorns noctornal?

The reason why is that they have a high number of photoreceptor cells in their eyes.

Even though they have long legs, pronghorns aren’t great jumpers. Isn’t that amazing?

The reason why is that their legs are made for speed so they can’t jump. Usually if they come across a fence, they just go under it.

5. Pronghorns have amazing eyesight.

Even though their eyes are positioned on the sides of their heads, pronghorns have amazing eyesight. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why do pronghorns have amazing eyesight?

The reason is becauses they have oriented(aligned) eyes facing forward to allow limited binocular vision. This makes them see things up to 3 km away!

6. Pronghorns sleep for less than 10 minutes.

Did you know that pronghorns sleep for less than 10 minutes?

Even though animals need lots of sleep, pronghorns sleep for less than 10 minute. Isn’t that amazing?

Now, why do pronghorns sleep for less than 10 minutes?

The reason why is that they have to make sure there is no potential danger. So they rarely close their eyes to sleep because they watch out for any sign of danger.
